June 10 (UPI) — Netflix is giving a glimpse of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new film Tick, Tick… Boom!
The streaming service shared a teaser trailer for the movie Thursday featuring Andrew Garfield as Jonathan Larson, an aspiring theater composer.
Tick, Tick… Boom! marks Miranda’s directorial debut. The film is based on the semi-autobiographical musical by the real-life Larson, who died at age 35 in 1996.
The preview shows Jon (Garfield) working as a waiter in 1990s New York while writing what he hopes will be the next great musical.
Tick, Tick… Boom! co-stars Vanessa Hudgens as Karessa, Alexandra Shipp as Susan, Robin de Jesús as Michael, Joshua Henry as Roger, Judith Light as Rosa and Bradley Whitford as Stephen Sondheim. The film is produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.
The real-life Larson created the musicals Rent and Tick, Tick… Boom! Miranda is best known for creating the musical Hamilton.
Tick, Tick… Boom! opens in theaters and premieres on Netflix in the fall.
