June 16 (UPI) — Jennifer Hudson has released a teaser for an original song she recorded for the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect.
The track titled “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” will be released on Friday and will appear on the soundtrack for the film. Hudson also portrays the late Franklin in the film.
“Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” will serve as the film’s only original song. Hudson co-wrote the track with Carole King and Jamie Hartman. Will.i.am. of the Black Eyed Peas served as producer.
“Music was always what brought Aretha back home, and this song is our tribute to her incredible journey,” Hudson said on Instagram alongside a snippet of the song.
Respect, from director Lisel Tommy, is coming to theaters on Aug. 13. The soundtrack will be released on the same day.
Hudson said in May on Good Morning America that she was chosen by Franklin to portray her in a film.
