It could be recalled that Nigerian fans at the Abuja Stadium stormed the pitch after the match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana to destroy facilities at the stadium.
This came after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar which is scheduled to take place later this year.

The world was shocked to see how the stadium facilities were destroyed and the renowned sports journalist, George Addo Jnr who was at the stadium has shared his thoughts on why the Nigerians stormed the pitch.
Speaking in a recent interview on Hitz FM, he said;
“Getting only the fans in Abuja to fill the stadium would have been impossible. The Nigerian Football Federation then went ahead to get other people from other states. We ended up having about 62,000 in the stadium and about 5,000 outside.
The aim of the Nigerians was to get to the Nigerian players or officials to vent their frustrations to them.
It took about 3 minutes to get the players (Nigerian and Ghanaian players) into the tunnel. The missiles were coming from all angles.”
