Matilda The Musical: Everything We Know So Far

    Published on

Emma Thompson has transformed into villainous Miss. Trunchbull for Matilda The Musical – and we cannot wait to relive our childhood!

Our excitement reached fever-pitch as Netflix dropped the trailer for its film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book (not to be confused with the 1996 film starring Mara Wilson).

And while the trailer looked fun with its all-singing, all-dancing cast of children, including the titular character Matilda herself, we were abruptly reminded of Miss Trunchbull’s child-hating ways, thanks to Emma Thompson (AKA our national treasure).

“This school is full of rebels. Matilda Wormwood, criminals like you, need a real lesson,” she horrifying informed our little heroine – and that’s all we need to know to band together and get rid of her for good!

But in the meantime, if you need a little more information on Matilda The Musical, we’ve got you covered.

Who stars in Matilda The Musical?

Alisha Weir as the titular child prodigy Matilda Wormwood while Lashana Lynch plays our favourite Miss. Honey. Taking on the role of Matilda’s neglectful parents are Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough

What is the plot of Matilda The Musical?

The musical will re-tell the story of how a gifted little Matilda uses her newfound telekinesis powers to fight back from her annoying parents and help protect the children from her school from the wrath of Miss. Trunchball.

What famous scenes from the original 1996 movie can we expect?

Judging by the trailer, we get to relive the iconic scene where Bruce Bogtrotter is forced to eat a giant chocolate cake. Also remember when Amanda Thripp was swung around by the Trunch by her pigtails? Looks like we’ll get that content too.

Who directs the project and brings it to life for us?

Director Matthew Warchus helms the projects, while the original music and lyrics are by Tim Minchin, and Ellen Kane is responsible for the brilliant choreography.

When will Matilda The Musical be released?

Matilda The Musical is set for release on Netflix on December 2. Bring it on!
