Taylor Swift is facing criticism over her alleged private jet usage.
Not long after Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott faced backlash over a post about their matching private jets and it was reported that the reality star took a 17-minute journey, the digital marketing agency Yard released a list of the 10 celebrities they claim are the worst offenders when it comes to generating CO2 emissions from their private jets. Number one on the list was Taylor Swift.
According to Yard, Taylor’s jet has flown 170 times this year between January 1 and July 19 with an average flight time of 80 minutes. The agency also claims the flights amassed a total of 8,293.54 tonnes of CO2 emissions. For context, that is “1,184.8 times more than the average person’s total annual emissions.”
A rep for Swift hit back at the report on July 30. “Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals,” they said in a statement to Today. “To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”
Even so, fans and critics of the pop star—who recently thanked Dwayne Johnson for using an ‘ethically-sourced’ re-recording of her song Bad Blood —were not amused by the report. “Taylor swift saying she wants to run away to the lakes and live out the rest of her life surrounded by nature and then being responsible for 8923 tonnes of carbon emissions is sooo unserious,” one user tweeted.
Aside from thoughtful criticism, many users shared some (frankly hilarious) memes about the whole thing.
