Lucky Maselesele was beaten and stoned to death while he lay on the sidewalk in Alexandra, Johannesburg. “I am dying. Please help me,” were reportedly the last words uttered by the former Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro, Maselesele, before he passed away.

In October 2021, Maselesele was killed after being charged with stealing electrical cables. The two attackers of the former soccer star, according to witness Zinhle Maseko, who gave evidence in the South Gauteng High Court on Wednesday, left before returning to kill him.

“When we spotted them coming back, we were trying to assist him in calling his family and the police. Maseko, who was sobbing and refusing to look at the images of the crime scene that the prosecution had given her, stated, “We fled back inside our yard and locked the gate. She claimed that one of the men kicked Maselesele as he was being bit by a dog, while the other beat him with bricks.

Maseko reported hearing the sound of a bottle being broken but not seeing who did it. She said that after the men had departed a second time, they returned to see how the victim was doing. She stated that Maselesele had trouble recalling his family’s phone numbers. “He said he was going to die and we had to help him. I fled and went to stand by the gate after realizing things were not going well with him.

She said that she fled because she was terrified of the dead. Xolani Gumbi and Luvuyo April are on trial for the murder of Maselesele. “The killers of Maselesele were apprehended and brought back to the scene of the crime the same night,” said Maseko, though she was unsure if they had been arrested. She admitted to the court that she couldn’t recognize them. https://www.snl24.com/dailysun/news/lucky-maseleseles-last-words-20230119
