PDP-G5 Crisis: Unite As Soon As Possible With Makinde, Other G5 Govs – Olubadan Pleads With Atiku

Oba Lekan Balogun, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has urged Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, to act quickly to form a coalition with Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, and his other G5 members.

The monarch warned Atiku that if the leadership situation in the party was not resolved as soon as possible, the outcome of the election might be in jeopardy. The PDP presidential candidate paid the Olubadan a courtesy call at his palace on Thursday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, during which time, according to reports, the Olubadan made the heartfelt appeal to Atiku, whom he addressed as his friend.

The monarch stressed that for Atiku to win in 2023, a reconciliation with the five disgruntled PDP governors—commonly referred to as the G5 and included Makinde, who shunned the PDP rally today—has become essential. If Atiku wins the election for president next month, the monarch also warned him not to ignore traditional leaders.

In his response to the Olubadan, Atiku stated that the PDP administration would make sure traditional leaders are respected throughout the country, especially at a time when there are major security concerns. “We will put the country’s reorganisation into action, and we will consult with the many groups that make up the nation to determine how best to grant them complete autonomy and resources so that we can see a more inclusive growth in the economy.
