Political Thugs Forces PDP to suspend campaign in Edo Central

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo Central Senatorial district, has suspended its campaign following gunshots by suspected political opponents during a campaign in ward seven of Esan Central Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The shooting was said to have caused pandemomium as the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Marcus Onobun and other PDP leaders were evacuated to safety while others ran for their dear lives.

In a widely shared video about the incident, Hon. Anslem Ojezua, a former commissioner for land and survey and a key figure in the PDP faction loyal to Governor Godwin Obaseki, stated that the police were investigating the incident to identify those responsible.

“Today, we had to put our campaign on hold. The last campaign stanza in Esan Central was supposed to take place today. When we heard gunshots close to the rally while we were in ward 7 and were otherwise having a really calm day, we made the decision to leave right away in order to prevent any injuries, potential property damage, or human lives being lost.

“We then learned that there may have been lost of lives.

It was only sensible and considerate to put our campaign on hold until we were certain of what had happened.

We have reliable information that the police are in charge of the situation, and we can continue our campaign as soon as they provide us with more details, Ojezua said.

When reached, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, stated, “For the time being, we know nothing about the occurrence.”
