Makueni County First Lady Anitah Mutula has called on area residents to be vigilant in the fight against cancer.
Anitah while speaking at Utangwa in Mbooni, Makueni County has encouraged locals to stop being afraid of cancer tests maintaining that it will be easier to treat the ailment if detected at its early stages.
“You have all seen me go through the tests, you should not fear any test, encourage those at home to come out for these tests, and if you have a child at home 9-14 years, make sure they get the HPV vaccine, it helps eliminate cancer by 95%,” Anita said.
The first lady was speaking while accompanied by the county health department officials held free cancer screening to women to mark the Cervical cancer month.
At the same time, Anitah has also called on Makueni residents to register with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to help cut the cost of cancer treatment once one tests positive of cancer.
“Let our people register with NHIF, it will help you when you test positive for cancer, the cost of treatment will be relatively cheaper,” she added.
She has revealed that cancer patients will get free treatment in Makueni County at the first and second stage of the treatment process.
The event was through a partnership of the Makueni County government, NGAO and PADS Drive Africa and will be held through out the six sub counties in Makueni county.
