Final PL Table After Today’s Matches as Newcastle leapfrog Man United & Chelsea drops points

It was a fairly quiet half in terms of clear cut goal scoring opportunities but the Magpies dominated play for most of it. They showed why they have the best defensive record in the English top flight as Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace failed to even register a shot on target.

Joelinton & Burn both tested Guaita in the home goal but the goalkeeper was equal to everything that came at him.

The hosts were frustrated with the referee as they felt too many decisions were going in favour of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle. The second period followed the same pattern, but the home side were a bit more threatening. Pope was forced into a good save to keep out Mateta’s powerful strike while Guaita made seven saves at the other end as the game ended 0-0.

The draw takes Newcastle into third place for the time being as Erik Ten Hag’s United are yet to play this weekend. Crystal Palace stay 12th but create a bit more space between themselves and the relegation battle. The Eagles travel to Threatre of Dreams for their next league game while Newcastle face St Mary’s versus Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
