Arsenal: Arteta Plans to Raid “Crisis-Hit” Juventus After Initiating Talks With Top Midfielder

Arsenal have reportedly discussed Juventus’ Weston McKennie as a potential acquisition this month. The USMNT international has not been getting proper minutes in Juventus’ colors this season not to mention the record time Scuddetto Champions face sanctions from FIFA. It is not clear whether the player wants to move to another club this month, but Matt Turner could definitely sneak in a good word for Arsenal.

“Arsenal have not been particularly interested in McKennie in the past but Arteta has considered him as a big target for this month. Arsenal have been looking to sign a new central midfielder for weeks now but have had no luck in getting players they specifically want. McKennie is nonetheless a standout that could help Arsenal out in their title chase,” reported David Ornstein.

Weston McKennie is definitely a worthwhile addition because he can operate both in the #6 and #8 positions in midfield. He is quick on his feet which is a big plus not to mention has pin point positional awareness and is often in the right place at the right time. Not many clubs have shown interest in signing him this month which means that Arsenal have a big advantage in actually getting the deal done.

My opinion

Granit Xhaka has been playing the best football of his entire career this season but could use an extra push in midfield. Sambi Lokonga is not really making Xhaka nervous about his place in the squad and that has made it difficult for the Swiss international to have a steady trajectory in growth. McKennie however could be the key to unlocking Xhaka’s full potential.

McKennie has a lot to offer to Arsenal that is definitely not a doubt, but what could be of concern is whether Juventus would easily allow the player to leave. Denis Zakaria will be returning to Turin at the end of the season but that does not mean McKennie’s services will no longer be needed. Allegri is in a lot of pressure to succeed at the moment and needs all hands on deck to perform.
