Former President Uhuru Kenyatta summoned his cabinet on Wednesday, January 25 at a Nairobi hotel.
Uhuru met the former Cabinet Secretaries at around 5 pm till late. During the meeting they discussed how they could support the late George Magoha’s family. Magoha passed away on Tuesday, January 23 after a cardiac arrest. He served as the Cabinet Secretary for Education in Uhuru’s government for three years.
Uhuru Kenyatta will also lead the former CSs in facilitating Magoha’s send off. Close executive members were also invited to the meeting.
The former President first appointed Professor George Magoha as the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC before he promoted him to be the Cabinet Secretary for Education. He succeeded CS Amina Mohamed who was then taken to the Sports Ministry.
Magoha was last seen in public when he handed over the ministry to Ezekiel Machogu who was appointed by President William Ruto.
Uhuru in his statement after the passing of the scholar described him as a close friend.
Magoha’s brother Richard had also died and was to be airlifted from the United States for burial. His body arrived in the country on Wednesday morning. Magoha was preparing for his funeral when he sustained the cardiac arrest. He will be buried on Saturday, January 28 as it was earlier planned. The burial date of George Magoha has not yet been set by the family.
Two weeks before his death, Magoha had been admitted to the Maseno University faculty of Medicine to be the lead Professor of Surgery. Raila Odinga says he talked to him on phone where he told him about the interview he had at Maseno and the plans to bury his brother.
