It is merely after a couple of months when President William Ruto launched the cheap phones manufactured in Kenya. After ascending to the presidency, Dr. William Ruto focused his administration to a technological-advanced mode.
The Head of State had said Kenya will produce cheap android phones which shall retail between Ksh4,000 and Ksh5,000.
However, Cabinet Secretary serving in the Ministry of Information and Computer Technology Eliud Owalo said that the made-in-Kenya phones will be available to Kenyans by August 2023.
To the reports, they are in process under telecoms industry based in Machakos county. The ICT cabinet Secretary said that the phones will not only be available for the locals but also for export.
“The telecoms have realised that in the near future, Kenya must become a manufacturer of phones and cheap technology as opposed to a chief importer, so we are going to start manufacturing, the technology is already there and we are going to roll out this initiative by July,” CS Eliud Owalo remarked.
