Real Madrid hosts Atletico Madrid when the two Spanish capital outfits take on each other in a local derby with a place in the semi-final of the Copa Del Rey a stake on Thursday evening at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are separated by 10 points in the La Liga standings with Real Madrid comfortably ahead of their neighbours and their league meeting this season saw the Los Blancos win 2-1 at the Civitas Metropolitano.
The Los Blancos fumed a crisis last week when they came back from 2-0 down against Villarreal in the last 16 of the Copa Del Rey to win 3-2, and after suffering a humiliating defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, another loss would have been intolerable for the most demanding fanbase in the world.
Even though the host have been dominant in the Madrid derby over the recent years, they have only won this competition twice in the last 30 years, the most recent success coming during Carlo Ancelotti’s first tenure in 2014.
Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s men are without a victory at Santiago Bernabeu, since 2016 and their neighbours from the north of the capital have been able to consistently score against them in recent years. With visitor’s defensive woes escalating this season, backing the hosts to scorer atleast twice would appeal. We say Real Madrid 2-1 Atletico Madrid .
