“You Will Not Succeed, You Are in Opposition & Ruto is President,” Governor Sang Tells Off Raila

Raila Odinga, the head of Azimio la Umoja, has been criticized by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang for organizing recent public protests, saying that by doing so, he is doing nothing but stifling the country’s development.

Governor Sang claims that the rallies are causing political turbulence, which makes it harder for President William Ruto to carry out his development strategy.

Sang questioned Raila about his specific intentions and his end game now that the electioneering period is over and the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld Ruto’s victory.

Speaking on Sunday following a church service at St. Francis Catholic Church in Mosoriot, Nandi County, Governor Sang noted that the only opportunity Raila had to take over the country was when he was in a handshake partnership with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He observed that Raila lost his chance in the August 2022 elections; hence, he should accept reality and stop sabotaging the development agenda of the Kenya Kwanza government.

Sang further wondered how Raila thinks he can achieve anything meaningful now that he is in opposition and Ruto is the president.

He did, however, concede that Raila has the right to organize public protests, provided that he does so for honorable reasons.

President Ruto, for his part, has insisted that he will not be sidetracked by the antics and will carry out his duties as assigned. Ruto maintained that the opposition protests are sponsored by powerful individuals and are aimed at tax evasion.

Raila has often stated at rallies that he does not recognize Ruto as president and has called upon him and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, to resign.

Additionally, the Azimio chief on Sunday, during the rally in Kibera, cautioned President William Ruto against taking him for granted. Raila has several rallies lined up as he seeks to engage Kenyans and push the government to heed opposition demands.
