For decades, he has been the undisputed Nyanza region political kingpin. But as things stand today, ODM party leader Raila Odinga could be facing a rebellion in the region he has reigned supreme since the death of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1994.
From a section of Nyanza MPs skipping anti-government rallies to some of them openly meeting President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at State House, Raila appears to be batting a very serious revolt in his home turf which could sink him completely.
And then, there is ODM party national chairman John Mbadi who has threatened to resign from his powerful position. What does this mean? And where does it leave Raila?
With Nyanza region no longer speaking in one voice and with Raila seemingly losing his political voice, could this be the end of the road for him?
likes of John Mbadi resign, then the party will remain an empty shell considering that Dr Ruto is doing everything within his means to win region where the former Prime Minister enjoys a fanatical following.
Though it is very early to start writing off Raila considering his enigmatic nature, but the ODM chief has a lot to do if he is to reclaim the huge following he used to enjoy. But if he fails to tame rebellion in giant outfit, then he will sink, never to recover again.
