President William Ruto will be milking a dead cow from next month, this is according to political analyst Prof Herman Manyora
According to the University of Nairobi lecturer, it is going to be a situation of milking a dead cow if the government is going to increase Kenyans’ contributions to the National Social Security Fund(NSSF).
Reports on Tuesday revealed that Kenyans will from this month contribute at least Sh2,000 to the National NSSF from their salaries up from the normal Sh200.
In a ruling made by the Court of Appeal, members will now increase their contribution to six per cent of an employee’s earnings, with the employer matching the same.
The ruling has triggered Prof Manyora to allege that it is going to be the situation of forcing a dead cow to give more milk, which is not possible
“You cannot milk a dead cow!” noted the political analyst.
Appeal Court judges Mohamed Warsame, Hannah Okwengu and John Mativo ruled that the NSSF Act of 2013, which sought to increase monthly contributions from Sh200 to Sh2,000, is legal.
Notably, President William Ruto noted that contributing Sh200 as saving was too little to make an impact.
He endorsed the at least Sh2000 figure as a way of a saving culture in Kenya, adding that the government will also be adding a figure for every coin saved by Kenyans
