Meet A Professor Of Organic Chemistry Who Is The Current Vice Chancellor Of Pwani University

His name is Prof. Mohamed S. Rajab . He is currently a Professor of Organic Chemistry and the Vice Chancellor of Pwani University in Kilifi county. He holds a First Class Honours Degree in Chemistry from University of Nairobi. Prof. Rajab started his career at the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology in 1982. He then proceeded to the University of Maine in U.S.A. for his PhD in Chemistry in 1988.

He was then appointed as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas Texas to undertake medical research on cholesterol receptor sites and the synthesis of bioactive molecules.Prof Rajab returned back home and became a Lecturer in Moi University Department of Chemistry in 1989 and served there for 11 years where he rose through the ranks as COD, Dean of the Faculty and the Principal of Chepkoilel Campus. He was also a Senior Fulbright Research Fellow at the University of Louisiana in USA.

In 1999, Prof Rajab was as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University where he served for 9 years. Due to his good work at Kenyatta University, Prof. Rajab was appointed as the first Principal of Pwani University College. He served in this position until the University College was awarded its Charter as a fully fledged Public University in 2013 and that is where he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Pwani University, a position he has held up to now.

Prof Rajab is also the Chairman of the Mombasa County Education Board. He has also served as a member of the board of directors of several institutions the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, the National Museums of Kenya and Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Center among others.
