While the new notes are gradually being phased out of circulation, bank employees and customers have complained about the poor quality of the old naira notes that the Central Bank of Nigeria has restored. According to information obtained by Saturday PUNCH, bank tellers who distribute cash to consumers and employees of bulk rooms who receive huge cash deposits from depositors were concerned that the filthy and damaged notes would spread disease.
On the condition of anonymity, a teller at a new generation bank in the Ibafo district of Ogun State informed one of our correspondents that handling filthy bills was a source of worry for her and her coworkers, particularly those in the bulk room.
She stated, “There is genuine concern about getting sick. The N1,000, N500, and N200 notes that we are given to use to pay for goods and services after the old ones were circulated are mainly filthy and mouldy. To protect our health, we have gone back to using nasal masks on some of the bundles. Two of our coworkers in the bulk room started coughing last week, and things got so bad that the branch manager had to ask them to take a day off work so they could get treated. The impacted employees claimed that they were exposed to musty notes, which they had to remove”.

Cairo Ojougboh, a leader of the All Progressives Congress in Delta state, has reaffirmed that the executive committee of the party in the state and Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege cannot dismiss him. Recall that Omo-Agege had accused Ojougboh of waging a smear campaign against him through his campaign committee. He referred to the party’s state executive committee as Omo-boys.
Agege’s Ojougboh made a statement on Friday through his media personal assistant, Emmanuel Ojeme.
He said, “The news that Omo-Agege and his boys were still acting as the Delta State APC executive committee and maintaining their delusional idea that they have the authority to eject Cairo Ojougboh from the APC did not surprise me when I read it on social media”.

Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, was unexpectedly dropped by the Golden Eaglets U-17 camp at the Parkview Hotel in Abuja on Wednesday. The player with the most international appearances for Nigeria urged the players to work hard to preserve the rich tradition of Nigerian football while also making a name for themselves and their families, adding that he regretted never having the opportunity to play for the U-17 team during his football career.
He said, “You will receive N500,000.00 for each goal you score at the U17 AFCON in Algeria next month, I promise and assure you. Always remember to play as a team. Play with your teammates if you are a defender, and vice versa if you are a midfielder. As a striker, try not to be egotistical”.
He added, “It takes a lot of effort. If you want to advance in your football career, pay attention to your coaches and follow their instructions. I regret not having joined the Golden Eaglets at times. You must take advantage of this chance. In Nigeria, you are not the best. There are a lot of better gamers than you around. Opportunity is the only thing that makes a difference”.
“Thus, you must put in a lot of effort. Pray a lot and be adamant about establishing a name for Nigeria as well as for you and your families. Don’t pass up this fantastic chance. In my Super Eagles’ first game, I was only given five minutes, but now I am the team captain”.
