It has emerged that all NHIF Cards operating from rural areas in Kenya will not be functional from Wednesday, 31st of May 2023.
According to sources, this is because over 350 rural hospitals will from reject National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cards and instead demand that patients pay in cash, following the failure of the public insurer to disburse funds.
The Rural Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (Rupha) says the NHIF Board has not remitted a single coin to the healthcare facilities in the April-June 2023 quarter making them unable to pay salaries as well as some layoffs.

This is a huge blow to Kenyans with a majority of them being those who depend on the cards to access the health services in the country but now will not manage to get the services.
The president William Ruto led Kenya Kwanza administration is yet to issue a statement on the same at a time when most of the Kenyans have been going through a lot of harsh economic times.
Health being one of the basic services that the Kenyan government is supposed to offer to all Kenyans is now left at a point where most Kenyans do not know the way forward.
