Education Experts have pointed out the grave mistakes the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) did during recruitment of Junior Secondary School teachers. Earlier report indicates that the Kenya Kwanza government employed 36550 teachers across the country. According to the reports shared by the local media, about 30,000 teachers out of 36550 were employed in Junior Secondary Schools as school opened in January this year. However education exports have pointed out the grave mistakes the commission did during recruitment of Junior Secondary Schools teachers.
According to the reports shared by Teachers Service Commission (TSC), post primary teachers are employed to teach only two teaching subjects. Worryingly reports shared by education experts indicates that about 70 percent of teachers deployed in Junior Secondary Schools have specialised in humanities, who basically teach History and religion, geography and Kiswahil. Therefore reports alleges that they are unable to handle science subjects in Junior Secondary Schools. A report that has sparked a lot of reactions from people across the country especially education exports, parents and stakeholders.
“These teachers are not in the position to teach Integrated science that is Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Claims indicates that most JSS teachers have gone without introducing the JSS students to integrated science.” Expert claims.
