Political experts are weighing on Azimio One Kenya plan to impeach National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
The lawmakers on Thursday said they would table a motion of impeachment to the floor of the House next week if the Speaker fails to uphold their decision to dewhip nominated MP Sabina Chege as the Deputy Minority Whip.
Experts reveal that its possible for the Speaker to be impeached but Azimio have to prepare for numbers in the house and even legal representation in the court.
The motion will then be subjected to voting by the member, where the Clerk of the National Assembly will tally the results.
impeachment motion receives at least two-thirds of the votes, then it will be resolved that the speaker ceases to be at the helm of the National Assembly. If those supporting the motion are below a two-thirds majority, then the speaker will continue to serve his term.
But experts argued that even if Wetangula’s impeachment motion were to sail through, courts would reinstate him if there are verifiable reasons.
The numbers in the House seems to favour Kenya Kwanza camp. This means Azimio bid to remove the speaker might fail to succeed.
